Dear SBSA friends and colleagues,

Another school year has begun and so has the planning for next year’s SBSA conference at Stanstead College!  We are very proud to be the 2010 conference hosts.  I hope that you will plan to join us in March for the association’s first-ever Canadian conference!  I am enclosing some preliminary information in order to help you prepare to join us.

Registration materials for the conference are now available online through the SBSA website (above) or here.  Register early as this will be a very well-attended conference.  Attendance is limited to the first 200 registrants.

This year’s conference will include the ever-important networking and information-sharing that everyone has come to expect from the SBSA conference, as well as captivating speakers, not to mention good old fashioned Canadian charm.  Opening our 2010 conference is Polly Young-Eisendrath, Ph.D., an engaging and imaginative speaker, psychologist and author of The Self-Esteem Trap.  You are welcome to take a sneak preview at what to expect by visiting Polly’s website, www.young-eisendrath.com.  Also addressing us in March is Caryl Frankenberger, who will speak with us about the WISC IV.  To close the conference, former boarding school student and world-renowned Quebec public speaker, Marc Andre Morel, (www.marcandremorel.com) will motivate us all to motivate others!  BUT we’ll do more than fill you with great information and food – We expect you will also be “wowed” by Stanstead’s international women’s choir, Choromondo, led by Stanstead’s own Allyna Harris, who will entertain us on Thursday evening, March 18th – visit their website to find out more: www.harris-mendieta.com/choromondo.html.

Please note that as of June 1st, 2009, all U.S. and Canadian citizens are required to present proper identification when entering and re-entering the U.S.  Proper identification includes a valid Passport, a U.S. Passport Card or an Enhanced Driver’s License.  Please ensure that your documents are in order as you make your plans.  Information regarding the new guidelines can be found through the U.S. Customs and Border Protection website, www.cbp.gov.

The SBSA 2010 Conference Hotels are “Les Hôtels Villegia”: Manoir des Sables and Cheribourg Hotels (less than a half mile separates the two).  These spa-resorts are located near the quaint town of Magog, just 20 minutes (25 miles) north of Stanstead College at the base of Mount Orford ski resort (www.orford.com).  Hotel information can be found through their website, www.hotelsvillegia.com.  The SBSA hotel conference rate is $102 Canadian/night (Approximately $85 USD) at the Cheribourg and $129 Canadian/night (Approximately $110 USD) at the Manoir des Sables.  Please ask for the SBSA conference rate when registering.

If you are flying, we recommend that you plan to travel to Montreal’s Pierre Elliot Trudeau Airport (www.admtl.com/passager/Home.aspx).   The conference hotel is approximately 100 miles east of Montreal.  Alternatively, some of you may want to consider flying to Burlington, Vermont (www.burlingtonintlairport.com) and driving across the beautiful Vermont countryside (approximately 2 hours drive) to Stanstead and on to the conference hotel.  If you are driving, you will find our website helpful for directions.  We will be sending you more travel details in upcoming emails.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our campus in March.  Please feel free to email me with any questions, visit our website or visit the Small Boarding Schools website to prepare and plan for the conference. Don’t wait to register!

See you soon, eh?

Joanne
